Last year, I created a FREE Etsy overhaul course, called “Shop Streamline”. This training is BY far my all-time favorite tutorial that I’ve ever created. (Wanna take it for free? Grab your spot right here. 😊)
In Shop Streamline, I literally PREACH about why you need to spend your time on the tasks that make you serious money, and DROP the rest.
I basically tell you to get rid of everything on your to-do list, unless it’s making you SERIOUS income every month.
This is all-out German-style efficiency: if that shit’s NOT working for you, get it the f*ck out of your life:

But when it comes to this advice, I have a dirty little secret.
I’ve failed, for an entire YEAR, to take my own advice.
In fact, I’ve held onto ONE BIG thing in my business that’s just not bringing in very much income right now.
What’s Really Going on in My Biz…
I’ve been selling on Etsy for around 4 years. For those first two years, I made £90k+ per year (around $130k for my American kiddos).
You can read about what it takes to maintain that level of sales in this article about my normal monthly income back then.
But at the end of my second year, I did something that changed EVERYTHING…And it altered the course of my biz forever.
What was my game changer??
I started a blog.
(I’m guessing you’ve read it, otherwise you wouldn’t be here right now) 😉
Something UNEXPECTED happened when my blog took off: I RAN OUT of time to keep up with my Etsy shop.
In fact, while a couple simple emails would generate literally THOUSANDS of dollars on my blog, I started to feel like my Etsy shop was HOLDING ME BACK.
It took WAY more work to make $1000 on Etsy vs. the blog – and I started to resent how much customer service, packing + shipping, and general bullshit I had to endure just to get a day’s income on Etsy:

Can you see why I didn’t wanna share this shit??
My whole BLOG is based on Etsy – so how can I give up the ONE thing that was holding my business back???
So now, it’s two years later… I haven’t had time to tend to my Etsy shop in ages…and it SHOWS.
In 2017, my Etsy shop brought in around $28,600.
WHOA, that’s a serious sauce drop.
It happened because – let’s be honest, I DON’T have time to keep up with all the stuff it takes to keep an Etsy shop running – because I was doing those things for my BLOG instead.
In fact, I used to run THREE Etsy shops, and I had to close TWO of them because I couldn’t keep up with the demand. (Blogging + three Etsy shops = NO. SLEEP. EVER.)
So, what did the BLOG bring in during 2017? (Using the SAME Etsy success tactics I teach in the Tribe??)
Total Blog income 2017: $183,287.80
Are we ACTUALLY in the upside down right now??? Did I make all this up in my head??
Turns out, that shit was REAL. The IRS took it pretty seriously. (F*ck you, taxes).
After my yearly income wake-up call, I had a moment of clarity:
I spend WAY less time making that money with my BLOG than I do on ETSY.
Based on my working hours to maintain an Etsy shop, I have to work 80+ hours a week to make that kind of salary.
But with my blog? I work an average of 3-6 hours a day this time of year. In the summer, that drops to 2 hours a day (Don’t judge…I need me some sunshine!)
- Etsy workweek = 80 hours.
- Blog workweek = 30 hours, MAX.
When it’s laid out in front of you like that, the solution seems pretty clear…
I tripled my income when I focus on the Etsy blog.
It’s time to make the SCARIEST decision I’ve ever made in my life:
I need to follow my own advice.
As of March 2018, my Etsy shop will only be open during Christmas. (Specifically, October through December).
During the rest of the year, it’s just NOT worth it.
I made the executive decision to cut the extra work OUT of my life, and focus on what’s clearly the golden goose: my BLOG.
That means 9 months out of the year, I can focus on writing more articles, creating more tutorials, providing MORE support for sellers like you, AND I can get serious about taking my shit to the next level.
